Going for the Goal...13.1 miles and $3,500 by January 7th!

Dear Friends and Family,

Ok, you are probably going to think I’m crazy, but after some research, thought, and prayer I have decided to run a half marathon. Yes, you read that correctly. I have set a goal of running 13.1 miles on January 7, 2007. You may ask yourself, “What could have possibly possessed that girl to take on a crazy challenge like that?” The answer is simple: I have joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training to help raise money to help those who have suffered, will suffer, and are suffering with blood cancers.

Because of my personal experiences with friends and family members who have battled cancer, my commitment to this goal is strong. Over the next 5 months, I will train for and complete a half marathon (13.1 miles) on January 7th at Disney World.

The Team In Training program will help me train for the physical, mental and emotional challenge of a half marathon, as well as the challenge of raising $3,500 for the research leading to the cure of leukemia and blood cancers. My belief is that through my personal commitment to achieving these goals and your generous contribution, many children and adults will someday hear the words “You have been cured of leukemia.”

In addition to training for this endurance event, each person on the team is running in honor of someone who is either currently battling leukemia or in remission. I am running in honor of my mother, Stephanie. She was diagnosed with Acute Promomelycitic Leukemia in August of 2002 and has been in remission since January 2003. I am also learning that finding the cure for leukemia is a step towards curing other types of cancers. As the wife of a cancer survivor, this truth hits me very close to home. My husband, Rob, battled with osteosarcoma two years ago. It was very difficult to watch him go through that. It is great to know that the funds raised through this program may eventually lead to the curing of all cancers. Please help me celebrate the joy of life and the hope that others will benefit from our combined effort to make a difference. Every donation adds up to the cure for leukemia.

Please send a check made payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and I will forward it to the local chapter. A self-addressed stamped envelope is enclosed for your convenience. Your canceled check (for less than $250) is your receipt. You may also charge a donation by visiting my secure fundraising website
Thank you in advance for your support! I will be sure to keep you posted of my progress via this website.

Sincerely,

Becky Callahan
